About Us

Our Church

Emmanuel Baptist Church exists to glorify the one true God through the proclaimation of the gospel. We gather every Sunday to sing together, pray together and hear God's Word proclaimed. You can watch our sevices online on Youtube but we encourage everyone to join us in person if they are able.

Our History

Emmanuel was originally planted by Calvary Baptist Church Oshawa in 1963 as an outreach to the south end of Oshawa. (More to be posted soon)

Our Mission

Emmanuel Baptist Church exists to:

Lead people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ

Integrate people into a caring familiy of faith

Teach people to walk closely with our God

Equip people to serve God with their lives

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God; that the sixty-six books, as originally written, comprising the Old and New Testaments were verbally inspired by the Spirit of God and were entirely free from error; that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the true basis of Christian union.

We are affiliated with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists.

The summary of our beliefs can be found in What We Believe on the FEBcentral website.

Our Pastor

Pastor John Greenidge accepted the call to become our pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church in September 2025. Prior to coming to Emmanuel, John has had a variety of jobs including pizza delivery, home energy inspector. He continues to work part-time at End of the Roll while serving Emmanuel as Pastor. John has previously served at Parkdale Baptist in Ottawa as a Pastoral Intern, at Lighthouse Baptist in Courtice as Pastor from 2019-2021 and at Harmony Road Baptist in Oshawa as Interim Pastor in 2023.

John Greenidge was born on June 23, 1989 (Exactly 26 years after our building was completed) and was raised by Christian parents in Harrowsmith, ON, 20km north of Kingston. He has three older sisters and a younger brother. His parents still live on the same farm where he was raised. John came to saving faith at 18 years old and was baptized two years later in 2009.

John joined the army reserve in 2006 and completed basic training in 2007. He then served 13 years and was honourably discharged at the rank of Master Corporal. About half of that time was full-time service. During that time he completed a wide range of courses including the Junior Leadership Course.

He graduated from St Lawrence College with an Energy Systems Engineering diploma in 2011. He graduated from Master’s College with a Bachelor of Religious Education in 2016. He graduated from Heritage Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 2021.

John and Kim met in October 2019 and were married on May 9th, 2020. Due to restrictions at the time, they only had 8 people at the wedding. But they were able to have a reenactment with more guests in September that year. John enjoys time with family, hockey, board games, reading (all kinds of books). He enjoys working with his hands and getting involved in fixing things. He has a passion for God’s people and God’s Word.
